A new year it is a time for new fascinations, it is also time for a new collection of the QΠШ ROBERT KUPISZ brand for the AW 22/23 season, with the significant name ICONS. A collection full of contrasts, typical of the brand, a collection that is a must for every street fashion amateur. One in which the familiar stories and archetypes are presented in the Designer's modern approach.
"I was inspired to create the collection by the extremely colourful life of the prima ballerina Anna Pawłowa, who went down in history thanks to her interpretation of the Dying swan"- says Robert Kupisz. "The ICONS collection stands not only for the iconic art of dance, namely ballet. When creating the collection, Orthodox church art played an equally important role, as it inspired me to create prints and use gilding, characteristic for this artistic process, unique both in the craft and spiritual dimension. That is why ICONS constitutes a clash of tradition and modernity, an interpretation of period costumes, translated into the language of contemporary street fashion." - the designer adds.
As always, the vast majority of clothes have universal cuts, emphasizing the brand's message that there are no divisions. The designs simply had to include characteristic for the brand cotton t-shirts, chunky sweatshirts and trousers, characteristic jeans made of thick, ecologically dyed denim, and oversized shirts - flannel with a blue and brown checkered design, airy with strong prints of seraphs and medals, as well as oversized classics made of translucent etamine. The winter collection includes jackets and vests, as well as simple, irreplaceable wool coats. It is worth mentioning that the collection has been entirely sewn in Poland, from environmentally friendly fabrics - the certificates include, for example, GOTS, ECOVERO, and OEKO-TEX.
A characteristic feature of the collection consists in strong, uneven gilding and silvering of fabrics that emphasize their structure and add shine to denim trousers, blouses, and shirts.
Apart from everlasting black and an entire range of greys - from light, illuminating shades, through dark and graphite colours, up to the flagship patterns dyed with the tie dye method, characteristic of the brand, the collection is dominated by subdued, muted colours - brown, burgundy, and petrol, meaning blue with tones of teal.
The classic polka dots design has also been reinterpreted - in the Designer's version it resembles snowflakes whirling against a background of a city night sky. In contrast to them, we've received prints presenting seraphs, as well as gilding and silvering of fabrics, which in combination with military motifs paint before our eyes an image of power, wealth, and style in full bloom.
Agata Serge's photo shoot is as theatrical and nostalgic as the ICONS collection - using chiaroscuro emphasizes the weave and gilding of fabrics, and the stylizations take us to a different, mysterious reality. The backgrounds, prepared specifically for the shoot, and a custom-made frame bring to mind the interiors of theatres and the mystical atmosphere of Orthodox church buildings.
The photos are complemented by a film by Paweł Grabowski from WOW PICTURES.
The ICONS AW2022/23 collection is now available for pre-sale online on the robertkupisz.com website, and in company boutiques located in Warsaw, Gdynia, and Poznań.
