The new '89 collection for the fall/winter 2020/21 season had its official premiere on January 21, 2020 in the form of a multimedia, interactive art installation, a dance film by Adam Kościelniak and an image session by photographer Zosia Promińska.
''89 is another extremely personal collection, referring to the times when, as a teenage resident of Kielce, I dreamed of a career as a fashion designer. Some time ago, my mother sent me some designs she found in the attic. It turned out that these were drawings that I sent to a famous sports brand in 1989, hoping for cooperation. Unfortunately, it didn't work out then. The submitted designs were probably too avant-garde for the times and fashion at that time. In hindsight, I think it's very good that they were rejected back then, because after 30 years I can implement them with my own brand." – says Robert Kupisz. “The turn of the 1980s and 1990s was the time of my youth, and the clothes I wore then were in line with current trends. The '89 collection is a tribute to the stage of life that shaped me and led me to the moment when I can realize my dreams from that period." – he adds.
The clothes from the '89 collection are a modern interpretation of clothes typical of that period. The collection includes high-waisted distressed jeans, crepe tracksuits and dresses, hand-dyed flannel shirts, sweatshirts with the characteristic 89 print and the ubiquitous brand logo. The designer also offered his clients clothes that fulfill several functions, e.g. sports dresses, which, depending on the styling, can also be sweatshirts, and after unfastening the hood they become modern evening dresses. This is an idea that meets the needs of conscious consumers who, thinking about ecology, are looking for multifunctional clothes that can be styled in several ways. Additionally, of course, the entire production of the collection, as always, takes place in local small factories in Poland.
As part of the campaign promoting the 89 by Qπш Robert Kupisz collection, photos and a video were created showing clothes in motion. “Once again, the campaign heroes are consciously dancing. Dancing, especially break dancing, which came to Poland in the mid-1980s, is the best way to show that these clothes are comfortable and you can move in them," says the Designer about the idea for the campaign. The author of the photos featuring break dance dancers and model Julia Oliynuk is Zosia Promińska.
The film was created by Adam Kościelniak. A high-speed camera and a Venom robot were used to shoot the film, which allows the recording of high-quality images in slow motion. The film in a street atmosphere, showing the spectacular moves of break dance dancers improvising to the rhythm of funk music, is also a tribute to the Qπш logo, the first version of which Robert invented when he was a student of an art high school to sign his paintings with. Total logomania went beyond the framework of the film promoting the collection and became the inspiration to create an event combining the premiere of the collection for the media with an artistic installation entitled "Total QПШ Art Multimedia Installation".
